The new concept perfume-bar named Liquides in Paris which opened on the 17th of April and was founded by David Frossard’s Different Latitudes, a label for independent perfumers founded in 2005, and designer Philippe Di Méo, is a true mecca for fragrance lovers. Located conveniently at 9 rue de Normandie in the historical Marais neighborhood; which has the air of 17th century Paris and over the last couple of years has become the destination of choice for niche fragrance connoisseurs. On that part Liquides adds significant value to the neighborhood’s reputation offering a broad scala of scents, from rare personalized perfumes, to fragrances from major perfume houses including Byredo, Miller Harris, Odin, Arquiste, Jardins de France and Olfactive Studio.

The perfume-bar itself has been designed by Philippe Di Méo, who created the retail space to accommodate both the mentioned selection of perfumes by renowned perfume houses as well as his own Liquides Imaginaires which were previously only available at L’Eclaireur. Under the eponym Liquides Imaginaires Di Méo has created three limited edition scents with the Latin names, Sancti, Fortis and Tumultu. Each scent represents three different interpretations of the incense theme brought to life through a sacred dimension where their decorative bottles feature various religious symbols from Christianity to Kabbalah, Islam and Paganism.

When entering the bar the eyes see rows of fragrances in glass bottles lined up in the shelves, with an actual bar enabling customers to sample the selection of scents. We can’t wait to visit Liquides in the near future ourselves!

Chanel n°5 first saw day in 1921 within a highly dynamic creative context. Since the Cubist revolution brought about by Picasso’s Demoiselles d’avignon, in 1907 and the advent of Futurism in italy in 1908, the avant-garde ceaselessly went about writing a particular modernity which would finally triumph at the dawn of the 1920s. From that moment abstraction spanned all forms of creativity, equally inspiring art, poetry, literature and music, and the fragrance of this new perfume which evoked a very mysterious flower, unless of course it didn’t firstly evoke a woman.Coco Chanel hoped and prayed for this “perfume with the scent of woman” and she baptized it with the number 5, to avoid any attempts at defining it figuratively or descriptively. Close to some of the most innovative creators of the day, including Cocteau, Picasso, Apollinaire, Stravinsky, Dali and Diaghilev; Chanel maintained an amicable dialogue with each. The rich exchanges of ideas strengthened her as she rode the current of modernity she had taken as her own. The n°5 CULTURE CHANEL exhibition in the Palais de Tokyo in Paris is a voyage to the very heart of the Chanel universe. Between reality and fiction, the n°5 story provides keys to a creative world which never ceases to enrich itself through time. Born in the spirit of the moment, and of a woman’s aspirations and those of an epoch, the n°5 perfume bears and reveals a creative approach which is both visionary and unique to Chanel. The exhibition has once again been entrusted to Jean-Louis Froment, the curator of the previous editions of CULTURE CHANEL, held successively in Moscow’s Pushkin State Museum for Fine Arts, in Beijing at the National Art Museum of China and more recently in the Opera House in Canton. Others that participated in the creation of the exhibition are graphic designer Irma Boom, legendary garden designer Piet Oudolf, Laurent Burgisser and Jérôme Schlomoff.

The exhibition will run from May 5th until June 5th, 2013 at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

A few weeks back we received a message from Nicolas Gabard and Synneve Goode sharing their love for the perfect men’s wardrobe in the most beautiful possible way , translated into their own menswear brand from Paris: Husbands. A lovely new brand with a European touch: ‘The shirts are made in Italy, with the finest cotton fabrics from italian Tomas Mason with mother of pearl buttons from the pacific ocean, the scarves are knitted by hand in Sweden with Norwegian wool. The boots are handmade in Italy with french leather. The silk ties are knitted in Germany with the most precious part of the thread coming straight from the silk worm.’ English fabrics and Italian savour faire as they call it.
We love that. And we love their statement “Make quality a standard” even better. Let’s go for that! Meanwhile we can’t wait to visit them on our next trip to Paris.
