Bird
September 1

Bird, designed by Kristian Vedel in 1959, is making its comeback. The three birds, the child, the parents and the grandparents, are now available again via ArchitectMade. They are still hand made, in a traditional woodturner workshop in Denmark, piece by piece, in three different wood types, oak – smoked or natural, with its friendly walnut-eyes. Love it!

Crystal
August 30

Qompendium just shared this beautiful handcrafted crystal iPhone and iPod Touch stand by CalypsoCrystal with us and I instantly fell in love! Usually I’m not a big fan of crystal, but this one is made with such an elegance and restraint that I just love it! ‘It takes days and more then 15 pairs of hands to a produce a single CrystalDock. Every detail of every CrystalDock has been meticulously planned and taken care of; a must-have accessory that is divinely produced and made ready for shipping to any destination.’ Well, let’s give your iPhone a well deserved treatment with this treasure!

Well treated
August 23

My old (and favorite) Officine Creative boots just got back from The Royal Treatment and are like new again! Danny van Kerkwijk did an amazing job by giving them a completely new outer-sole without loosing the perfect fit they used to have before the surgery. He gave them a special treatment to keep the raw look of the shoes with some very nice details in the finishing like raw edges, a red scratched mid-sole and a reinforced nose. Love them like never before.

Horween Leather Co.
August 20

A really interesting post by Horween Leather Co. about the basic techniques to finish the leather. I remembered my days at Red Wing Shoes were we learned about the techniques of air drying, seeing all the hides moving slowly, hanging down on hooks, waiting to become a shoe…
Horween Leather Co. is doing more, and they documented it really well on their blog. Read their post on air drying, pasting, vacuum drying, and toggling.

Bruce Cameron Clark
June 22

Bruce Cameron Clark is a fantastic bespoke clothing shop on Lexington Avenue and 71st Street, NY. Lately the New York Times did this little documentation on Mr. Clark’s shop. Nice fact: His suits are somewhere around $5,000 and his handmade boxer shorts, the monogrammed pair, are about $150. But what’s better than your own bespoke boxer with your initials in it?
Thank you Paul van Ravestein for sharing.

Moos tailored basics
March 16

Just received an email from the Amsterdam born Koen Tossijn a.k.a. Moos, Tailored Basics, to introduce his made to measure jeans. Started with the dream to make something for the people around him he create the ‘tailored basics’ all from a 14 oz selvage natural dyed indigo denim from the Kuroki mill in Okayama, Japan. At this moment he is working on two outfits based on post war essentials, a men and a woman. What is more beautiful than real, small and engaged craftsmanship?! And the best thing? You can simply buy an item with money, or make something which you believe is of equal value… (PS. Be sure you’ll check his picture blog as well)

Grenson Tenue de Nîmes
March 10

In November last year Tenue de Nîmes visited the Grenson factory in Rushden, Northamptonshire to salute our first Grenson x Tenue de Nîmes shoe. We developed a black Tenue de Nîmes interpretation of the Grenson classic: the Fred. The shoe is a limited edition high top brogue with a triple layer -blue tone- leather sole. Tenue de Nîmes was amazed by all the stages of English craftsmanship to finally come together in this characteristic shoe. That is why we decided to do a video about the factory and the nearly 200 pit stops that our shoe had to make before it got delivered in Amsterdam. The factory images and report will be published in Journal de Nîmes Nº5, in July 2010.

The sum of details
February 26

Louis Vuitton changed their communication from showing old and erstwhile world leaders on their way down the road into telling the story of the high-end craftsman and the beauty of the details.
I saw the sneak preview of the images, shot by Desiree Dolron, a few months ago and I instantly fell in love with the brand.
Above image is the sewing of the leather with a beeswax thread to protect the stitchings overtime. Louis Vuitton: The sum of details beautifully captured by Desiree Dolron! For more images Read the rest of this entry »

Wow, remember Temple Bags 6 months ago, the blogger page, and Steve Opperman, the man behind it making all the bags by hand, all in single pieces.
It transformed into a real collection and an online shop. Thankfully the bags are still made of re-purposed materials and they still look great!
