Every step we take is a step forward, and every step we remember is one of substance. In our life there are events, people and belongings that will change us… things that at first glance aren’t that special, but get meaning when we realize how we got there and what function it wears in our cycle of life. It makes us realize that everything around us at this very moment could make the change we are looking for. I was off for a few days, enjoying the summer at the Dutch waterside and trying to relax after weeks of hard work. In the coming days I will post about a beautiful book I’ve received by the Dutch upcoming photographer Valentina Vos; I will post about some new e-bay finds (a vintage 60’s Tudor including) and we will launch the new Anothershop, coded by Stuart Hobday, with some very nice new stuff in there as well. Stay tuned…

Last weeks Jonathan Looman (aka Lowman) made some more or less necessary changes to Anothersomething. One of them was to make the special features more special by changing the layout into something more magazine-like.
And since we’re so happy with that we invited some friends to start participating in Anothersomething, in the special features, to start with Hugo Verweij.

Hugo Verweij runs his own blog called Everyday Listening were he ‘collects inspiring and remarkable sound art and creative sound design projects, installations, reviews of urban soundscapes, places, contemporary or experimental, mostly electronic music.’
He inspired me for the past 20 years, showed me new music, guided me from unknown and abstract electronic artists to melancholic tunes and I’m very happy to welcome him at Anothersomething. Enjoy Another Sound!

We are very proud to announce that we, together with Tenue de Nîmes, may cary the beautiful Japanese Midori Traveler’s Notebook in our little online boutique. The Traveler’s Notebook is a hand made black leather cover with white and an extra ruled paper refil (nr 003 and nr 002) made in Japan, a zipper and card file (nr 008 and nr 007) to cary all the collected paper treasures, and comes in a fine box and extra cotton pocket to cover the notebook while on the road. (All the inserts from nr 001 till nr 010 are also available at Tenue de Nîmes)
Next month I’ll be on a trip to Morocco, to the desert, use this beauty and report on it while traveling. To be continued…

We are very proud to bring you the news that the first restyled issue of Blend, the Blend Paper, just hit the stores. The dutch paper focusing on fashion, music, art, culture, media and people comes six times a year, the Blend Magazine (the international english glossy) will be our next project and will be published four times a year. We started the restyle process 6 months ago and were involved in shaping the whole concept and idea behind the magazine and helped it grow into two different issues, a dutch paper and an international magazine. Enjoy a little preview after the click and get yours in the newsstands around in Holland.

We finally moved to our new office/studio/bureau/shop which we will call Another Workshop. In the meanwhile we’re working on the new Anothercompany website. Stay tuned, stay connected, stay curious… and keep on inspire us.

I’m excited! The first post in a new decade, a clean slate, time to think about the future. At this moment Anothercompany is growing into a real studio, into our little workshop in the centre of Amsterdam. There we will continue to work on a new knitwear label, a magazine restyle, a new restaurant and shop identity, and off course the upcoming Journal de Nîmes and the continuation of our private label at Tenue de Nîmes and more, much more! We are looking forward to bring Anothersomething to the next level with some thrilling collaborations and events and Anothershop will carry more of our beloved items then ever before.

I like to thank everybody involved in Anothersomething for this beautiful year! At this moment it’s a little too busy, moving to our new office in Amsterdam, working for some big clients and preparing some stunning 2010 projects, but we found the time to do just a little recap of our last years favorites.

Designing Design – Kenya Hara
One of my all time favorites and must haves. Japanese designer Kenya Hara gives us a little peek into the head of Muji and his design theory on the importance of “emptiness”.

Favorite music
Mike Sheridan
We just love the 19-year old Danish producer and performer Mike Sheridan for his deep and dark scandinavian grooves and hope we’ll hear a lot more in the coming years…

Radiohead / Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke stays on my personal top 5 of artist. We all loved free tracks Radiohead shared the past months, in special the on for the last known British World War I veteran Harry Patch.

Moderat
Driving with windows open, following the Mediterranean coastline of France at the end of the day with the smell of lavender and bougainvillea, enjoying the colours of the sundown in the reflection of the waves… That is Moderat for me….

Favorite brand
Heritage Research
I instantly fell in love with Heritage Research. A beautiful ‘newcomer’, Hand crafted in England using the finest British and Japanese fabrics they’re reviving tailoring traditions…

Grenson
Grenson is more my favorite of 2010, since we’re releasing a stunning collaboration (Tenue de Nîmes x Grenson) in the coming months… stay tuned…

Bertelli bicycles
I got a little tired of the fixed gear hype but couldn’t resist this little brand from NY. Beautiful classics assembled by hand, finished and fine-tuned by Francesco…

Joolz
One of my favorite clients, favorite products and favorite brands in one. Joolz, a young stroller brand from Amsterdam released their new Joolz Day strollers, and for me and my little boy they’ve made an all black version – can’t make me happier ;-)

Rhodia
Where Moleskine claims to wrote history with their notepats Rhodia can actually say the are the history. Beautiful notepads, and still in the classic orange color, from France…

Our friends from h(y)r collective changed their name and did a huge step forward by publishing Inventory Magazine featuring Nigel Cabourn, Mister Freedom, Daiki Suzuki and Yuki Matsuda a.o.

What was started as a press release one year ago moved organically to a magazine/paper where we are sharing our favorite brands and friends. We are stoked on what’s coming next and hope you’ll enjoy all the coming issues of Journal de Nîmes as you did with this last number.

Apartamento Magazine is just that other interior magazine we were missing out there. Documenting real interiors, were people like you and me are living in, instead of the theater decors and clean and cold interiors we used to see in the old magazines…

Leather accessories from up north. Our Danish friend and owner of Royal Republiq Nicolas shared his vision on his business of creating beautiful leather footwear and bags – soon shared here.

Pilot Capless vintage
Mon ami Luis Mendo moved to Tokyo for some moths and came back with this beauty: The Pilot Capless. We couldn’t help and immediately bought the 1964 vintage version of this wonderful fountain pen.

Favorite person
Nigel Cabourn
Meeting Nigal Cabourn is really moving back in time. The stories he shared, the details he talked about and the materials he used in his garments are from an inspiring and high quality level we didn’t saw before. You will see more of this inspiring person in the coming year.

Yamandu
My friend Yamandu dropped all his work, stepped into his little car and hit the road for 4 months, crossing Europe for his project EUROPEANS. What is more inspiring?!

Remarkable people
When two amazing people get together, their potential impact grows and the world changes shape. That is the idea behind By/Association and we hope to hear more from this lovely project in the coming year….

Working on a exclusive champagne for Pacha Ibiza we visited Guy Charlemagne in the Grand Cru vineyards of Le Mesnil-Sur-Oger. The best champagne I’ve had in years… Let’s toast on that!

Mon ami Nalden, together with Hein van Joolen, organized a series sneak previews of coming movies. A nice get together with friends and likes; and we did saw some lovely movies! Thank you for that.

Friday october 30 Fontanel and Nieuwe Garde organizing a new issue of 60 Minute Magazine during the ‘Internationaal Beeldfestival Rotterdam‘. Participants will get 60 minutes to create a complete magazine issue – if you’re around, want to share your creativity in journalism, graphic design, photography, illustration or anything else, email them to get on the list. I’ll be there to do a short presentation on our work to inspire, and during the process to coach a bit in the art direction. Hope to see you there…

A must have for winter cooking: A tough and heavy weight apron with a large practical gussetted pocket on the front with a smaller top pocket made by Labour and Wait. A very nice, very small and lovely boutique in East London packed with functional products for daily life.

When workwear becomes fashion. Klein Tools is a beautiful example of this. With it’s indestructible bags of heavy weight canvas and leather finish they are a must have for workmen and a very nice accessory in the back of your old timer Porche 911…

Kiosk is one of our favorite online boutiques. Reference Library is one of our favorite online blogs sharing great vintage finds on ebay. Togerther they made this fantastic Vietnam-era laundry bag. Too bad it’s sold out…

We very much like Oi Polloi, the webshop with the ultimate selection of classic, functional outerwear with innovative contemporary labels and a serious arsenal of casual footwear. And well, this is just the most classic of all. The JanSport Heritage Hoss daypack with the original JanSport woven label from 1967.

Beautiful posters by Etsy shop A View To with collection of rare things, composed in a very neat way arranged by colour. We specially like the black one with the strange little figures, the cello strings, the moleskine and the lovely illustrated figures in the pictures…

The dokside’s by Sebago are our favorites for the summer, but this is definitely a nice winter alternative. The Deck Boot by Albam. The real moccassin construction, hand cut and made with chromexcel leather upper and pigskin lining. Love it.

L’Oeuvre Noire is a fine eau de parfume by Kilian. In their own words ‘with the freshness of bergamot contrasted by the heat of spices – nutmeg, cardamom and coriander – which creates an elegant yet unusual opening. For Bright magazine we did a review on bags, focused on the corporate laptop carriers, but than the nice one, the one we want to be seen with… It became a very nice collection of bags, varying from the absolute classic Filson, to the contemporary Mismo bags.
