Continuing where two of the most inspirational forces in fashion, T-Michael and Alexander Helle of one of our favorite outerwear brands; Bergen-based Norwegian Rain, left off last winter with the beautiful The Arctic Coat Collection, they now present the Autumn/Winter styles for 2015. As always purveying the ethos of the brand: creating some of the most functional outerwear on the market without compromising on style, with the extraordinary hi-tech elements hidden within the elegant designs with avant-garde touches. For the new beautiful seasonal imagery the brand teamed up with regular collaborator, photographer Bent René Synnevaag who joined forces with Japanese stylist Kanako B Koga, in a clean series portraying a collective of Japanese common men and a woman wearing the immaculate coats on typical locations for the Land of the Rising Sun, which has formed an important inspiration for the brand both aesthetically as in the exquisite level of craftsmanship. And we are back in the new year, in which we will start a lot of new exciting projects and share more beautiful stories both under the Another Something & Co. flag as within Our Current Obsessions: stay with us to be a part of another amazing year. Today we go back to 2014 one last time, and shine light on the incredible book 'Down the long driveway, you'll see it,' which was released at the end of last year by writer Matthew Arnold and photographer Mary Gaudin. In the book a tremendous collection of photographs is gracefully presented, showcasing some of the most beautiful modernist homes in New Zealand, ranging from being built in 1950 until 1974. The somewhat ambiguous title of the book derives from a phrase in an email from one of the owners of the houses, Bruce Martin, giving directions to his home at the rural Māori settlement and surrounding area in Hawke's Bay, named Bridge Pā. When Matthew and Mary arrived at the lovely house, they found a lifetime’s of pottery in it, made by both Bruce and his wife Estelle, together with gifts from potter friends. As this exquisite mix of craftsmanship and design turned out to be reminiscent for all the one-of-a-kind homes shown in the book, the quote became a symbol for this extraordinary project. On the 20th of December, just before Christmas, Amsterdam-based The Playing Circle celebrated its second edition of their fascinating concept named The Loft. Where the first edition, last summer, was to be found on the the fifth floor of the Cristofori building located on the Prinsengracht, for their Winter edition they found a lovely location in the Vaudeville theater on the Singel in the heart of the Dutch capital. New within the whole concept is an online webstore where all of the products on display in the fully furnished apartment, which has the feel of somebody actually living there, are also for sale. It is The Playing Circle’s ambition to create a whole new home-retail experience in which one walks into an apartment which thoroughly will feel like someones home, but instead of just being able to marvel at it, now everything the eye meets is actually for sale. And we have to say; this second edition shows even more promise than last summer's debut, so make sure to see it in the coming days before it closes on the 4th of January, or when not in the position see the beautiful curation of products online. In conjunction with the 'Contemporary Morocco' exhibit at the Paris-based Institut du Monde Arabe, which was designed in 1987 by French architects Jean Nouvel and Architecture Studio, a tremendous traditional Moroccan tent has been constructed on the square in front of the building. The beautiful project by Tarik Oualalou and Linna Choi of the Paris-based architecture firm KILO, harmonizes contemporary design and technical innovation with traditional fabrication methods. Constructed from more than 650 m² of camel and goat wool woven by female cooperatives in the Saharan desert, the tent serves as an extraordinary urban landmark and a fitting symbol for the 'Contemporary Morocco' exhibit. In a highly elegant fashion the design of the tent pays homage to the nomadic traditions of southern Morocco. The result of both the particular design as the location is a wonderful clash between both modern and traditional aesthetic as materials, making the project a highly fascinating temporarily highlight when visiting Paris. It took a little longer to bring you a new mixtape, but we have made it just in time for tonight's Boxing Day diner. The weather has been very mild so far, but these tunes which have a tendency to be more on the electronic side, will support you through the coldest months of the year. The list starts with one of our favorite releases of the year by Jon Hopkins, followed by Erik Satie and Klara Kormendi and the beautiful 'Oh No' by Röyksopp. From Blue Lagoon's soundtrack Mikael Simpon's 'Slaar Skaar' from 2009 is followed by Nosaj Thing and the new song by former psychedelic J-rock group Yura Yura Teikoku's lead singer Shintaro Sakamoto named 'Birth of the Super Cult'. The list continues with releases by Jamie XX, Flying Lotus, alt-J, Marie Fisker, Young Fathers, Dark Sky and the incredible remix of Jon Hopkins' 'We Dissapear' featuring Lulu James, which we also included on the Summer Playlist. Another favorite release of this year follows; David August's revision of his Dynamic colleagues Kollektiv Turmstrasse's 'Last Day' and of the great Aphex Twin comeback album Syro 'aisatsana [102]', before which releases by Samaris, Jamie T and Daniel Johnston have passed. Since this summer the Humlebæk-based Louisiana Museum of Modern Art hosts the first solo exhibition of the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. The main work on display in the extraordinary museum 30 kilometers away from Copenhagen which was exclusively created by Eliasson features an incredible giant landscape unfolded throughout the South Wing of the museum which he named 'Riverbed'. Although the radical work hints to grotesqueness in its core, from the moment when we were finally able to see it with our own eyes yesterday, we can only underline what everyone has said before us: walking through the 'Riverbed' is truly a tremendous experience. If in the position we highly recommend to visit the work before it closes on the 4th of January. Eliasson’s exhibition questions the meaning and experience of the museum itself, and the complexities of the relationship between the artist, building, and viewer. By exploring the process of inhabiting space, Eliasson focuses the visitor’s attention on the art itself by encouraging the visitor to explore the landscape. Thus, the visitor is both at the exhibit and actually on it: living the artist's mantra Contact is Content. [ Continue reading ]
