Erik Schedin x Comme des Garçons
To celebrate the ten-year existence of his iconic sneaker, Erik Schedin teamed up with Comme des Garçons Shirt for an excellent Spring 2014 collaboration. The beautiful minimalistic sneaker was designed by the Swede ten years ago for his final degree at the Beckmans College of Design. At that time the clean and minimalist aesthetic really stood out; very few sneakers would not show any logos or labels and/or would have a monochrome style, like the all white leather with a perforated lining Schedin’s sneaker was made of. For the collaboration with the Japanese fashion label three different editions of the white sneaker were created: each sporting a different black painted shape, reminding somewhat of the sneakers Helmut Lang used to produce. Next to the release of the special editions, Schedin also restocked his classic all white sneakers, which are now produced in Italy.
After its initial design the Erik Schedin sneaker was taken in production and released in 2008, offered online through the designer’s webstore. After being featured by Michael Williams at A Continuous Lean, Erik Schedin’s shoe rapidly gained a certain notoriety and things have continued to develop progressively ever since. Next to the growing attention online, the shoe also became available through prestigious stores like Dover Street Market London, Mr Mudd & Mr Gold in 2010 and later Dover Street Market Ginza.
To thoroughly mark the ten year celebration of Schedin’s brainchild, a suitable creative partner was found in Comme des Garçons Shirt, which proved to be the perfect fit for the sneaker. Next to the development of this collaboration, the location of production has also moved from Vietnam to Italy and the shoes are now fitted with the very sole that Schedin was offered while sourcing Italian suppliers back in 2005, but at that time wasn’t able to come to terms with. Making the sneaker from now on available in its most perfect form.
We love this excellent collaboration and the overall aesthetic of Erik Schedin’s designs.
