The Walk
January 26

Last week in Paris we met Silas and Kristian, the people behind Soulland, and they shared their beautiful autumn/winter 2010 lookbook with us. The book is designed by Marco Pedrollo and shot by Nikolaj Holm Møller. The cold, desolate snow landscapes of Denmark and Norway form a fantastic decor for the beautiful autumn and winter collection of Soulland. Absolution
January 26

Absolution is a new brand of organic unisex cosmetics launched last year in Paris and the answer to the paradox of our century: finding harmony between nature and culture. The bottles are packed in lovely boxes printed with plant inks and made from recycled materials (and designed by Arnaud Pigounides).
The skincare line can be adapted to your skin’s mood by adding a drop of the La Solution products to customize it for your skin only. It all feels good! And as Isabelle Carron, the founder of Absolution says: “We all know by now that life is no fairy tale… But if you follow your heart and intuition, you may just make it a little more fun.”

Paris II
January 23

After setting a world record (visiting stores in one day) on Thursday we went to three fairs yesterday to get more Winter 2010 inspiration. The day started at the Capsule fair where Rene did not get the chance to recover from his hangover caused by to many Grey Goose at Le Baron with Acne’s Charlie Hedin and Kanye West. The reason for that were the brothers from Naked and Famous denim, or actually Brandon the older of the two, that started shooting words and sentences at us about his great new products with 500 miles an hour before we had the chance to look at a single one of them. After asking him politely to slow down just a little bit we fell in love with their unusual interpretation of Japanese denim. And to give you a little preview on what will arrive soon, we hereby announce that Tenue de Nimes will soon carry the heaviest denim ever made in the world.
In the same area as the Canadian brothers was Adam Alexander Bach, founder at Mismo, a Danish accessories brand that creates astonishing bags made with simplicity and quality as most important focus points. Just before we went out for a meeting with Edwin, we ran into the specialism of Rocky Mountain Featherbed. They make most incredible outerwear pieces like the body warmer shown above. Amongst two other we managed to get our hands on 6 leather/denim pieces that will hit the TdN store next fall.
Paris was two days full of great meetings, brands, shops and people that provided a lot of inspiration for the store, the Journal de Nimes and our weblogs. We will share all our other Paris highlights soon.

Paris
January 21

We arrived in Paris very early in the morning. Today was all about sourcing inspiration and shopping. Tomorrow will be visiting fairs and shows the entire day. We managed to stuff all the must-sees in ten (short) hours and we will share the favorites of the day. We started in Le Marais where we visited the lovely French Trotters, enjoyed the refinement of Surface to Air and visited the new L’Ecraireur. Walking towards our favorite vintage store Kiliwatch we came across this amazing little book shop with vintage magazines and books deriving from first edition Rolling Stone to the collectibles by Visionair. We could have spent an hour at Comptoir de L’Image but after buying a vintage denim book we had to run again. The rest of the day was full of excited Japanese at Marc by Marc Jacobs, waiting lines at Colette and next level fabrics at 45rpm. We ended our journey at another planet: ever heard of Merci? Never seen so much in one day. More Paris impressions in our next Journal de Nîmes.

Inspiration
January 16

Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov, former editors at the design magazine I.D. started the online publication Sight Unseen focusing on people and creativity.
They’ve already shared some very interesting views behind-the-scenes at design studios and factories as well as some nice book reviews and ‘city guides’ by creatives. As they can say it best ‘Sight Unseen uncovers the stories, inspirations, and obsessions of people who love to make things.’
A ‘must subscribe’ blog full of inspiration. And hopefully Sight Unseen and Anothersomething will collaborate somehow somewhere in a near future. To be continued…

the xx
January 15

Lately I’ve been enjoying the whispery tunes from The xx and their debut album xx. I very much like this trio from London with influences of 80’s guitar tunes and American R&B, accompanied with the soft vocal duets and downtempo melancholic melodies. Check their Myspace page and be sure you’ll see the Basic Space music video which is very nice as well.
