Wow, remember Temple Bags6 months ago, the blogger page, and Steve Opperman, the man behind it making all the bags by hand, all in single pieces.
It transformed into a real collection and an online shop. Thankfully the bags are still made of re-purposed materials and they still look great!
We very much like Commune de Paris, 1871. A simple, well made and beautiful label started by three young Parisians: designer Alexandre Maïsetti, art director Sébastien Lyky and Edouard Launay, all collaborating with other creatives in the field of fashion and graphic arts. Inspired by the french revolutionary symbols they’ve created a fine range of clothes, accessories and objects.
I guess all of us denim admirers are in desperate need of some proper jeans literature after books like Denim design, The Denim bible by Sportswear United, and Denim: From Cowboys to Catwalks. Recently the limited title ‘Denim Legends’ did all of our hearts stop for a second, but the price makes it a book that one has to save some money for every month. Luckily there are people like the Selvedge Yard that share their passionate words online. Last October JP published his view on the revelation of denim. After reading the following personal opinion we knew that our philosophy on the greatness of jeans has a lot of similarities with his:
“It may sound strange, but denim represents all that I consider to be good and of value in the world. It’s pure, honest, unpretentious, reliable, hard-working, American tradition that gets better with age.”
JP shares his first Levi’s experience in the article and then takes icons from the past to share some unique denim anecdotes. On the picture you see Bing Crosby, one of the main characters of the article as published on SY. Read the full story here.
Just got some very nice footwear by Oliver Spencer in the mail. The collection launched for AW09 is modeled after an Italian gardening boot and made of waxed leather in brown and black with a lovely red rubber out-sole.
We wrote about it before, but now we’ve got some insights on the brand and wanted to share it again. The spring/summer ‘Horses collection’ by Camo is inspired on north-african colonies and is about camouflaging the clothes to go to work, whether it is on your bike or on the back of your horse.
Finished with some lovely details like double buttoned pants, beautiful linings with spiral patterns and extra fine knittings… Keep an eye on Camo.
Yesterday we celebrated the one year anniversary of Tenue de Nîmes. For this special event we’ve published the 3rd issue of Journal de Nîmes, focusing on Japan, it’s most fabulous denim, the fashion tribes of Tokyo and much more… Enjoy our online issue here, or grab the printed issue at the store in Amsterdam (and soon online at Anothershop).
A lovely messenger bag, hand made in England by Bedouin made from 12oz waxed canvas, top grain leather and got some very nice detailing! Inspired by the Bedouin tents, ‘a nomadic shelter, rugged and weatherproof on the outside, whereas inside they offer luxury, shelter and comfort’ it is the bag that last a lifetime.
It is made in a very limited amount, and can be pre-ordered now online at Bedouin.
A while ago, Luis pointed me to Zillion, a French boy living and working in Tokyo, and making beautiful stuff out of kimono fabric. Check some very nice belts, caps and shoelaces over at Zillion.
Only at Shoerepair is a new collection of small leather goods exclusively available at Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair. Some very nice wallets, card cases and key holders in beautiful colours.
We met with the Grenson crew the first time last year because Jason Denham arranged a meeting in our store. We really enjoyed the meeting with the two outstanding representatives that were completely crazy about the 140 years old brand. We got caught by their enthusiasm and of course by the impressive history of this legendary English Grenson shoe company. Read the rest of this entry »
