Two of our favorite classic bike builders. One from the east coast and one from the west cast of the US. Bilenky Cycle Works, a custom bike builder with a rich history which goes back to 1983. And Jitenska Studio, with suburb hand made frames and the same define eye for detailing and quality.
“We dress to conform: business suit, dinner jacket. We dress for fun, fantasy, fancy-dress or roleplay. Or we dress simply to be ourselves. And when we want to be authentic, we choose workwear. Workwear has been a vital element in the social revolution of the past 60 years. In 1950 it was invisible; now it is everywhere. It defies the notion that familiarity breeds contempt.” — Margaret Howell, from an essay she wrote in the current issue of GQ Style. via Mister Crew.
Last month h(y)r collective changed it’s name and focus to INVENTORY, a curation of Ideas in Product, Craft & Culture. The online magazine became an off-line magazine which will be published in the coming days. Anothersomething got a sneak preview on the first proofs from the press.
Ryan explains: Volume 01 Number Fall—Winter 2009 features some of our favorite brands and people in menswear. With a focus on the stories behind the brands and products, we take stock whats important to us. Nigel Cabourn, Engineered Garments, Mister Freedom and Yuketen are featured in large beautiful spreads with in-depth interviews. Beautiful photography by Ken Tisuthiwongse, James Pearson-Howes and Ye Rin Mok graces the pages of our features. The magazine is printed in Canada, 5,000 copies, 2 covers – available in our online shop, Inventory Stockroom as well as select menswear and magazine shops around the world.
We can’t wait to see the result of this beautiful work by Ryan Willms, Owen Parrott and Simon Roe, under the art direction of Chris Allen.
Number one will be available at Anothershop and Tenue de Nîmes soon… stay tuned…
PS. Ryan lift a tip of the veil on the second issue – they’re heading to Japan to work on three articles with Beams, White Mountaineering and The Real McCoy’s.
David Paul Bayles started as a logger in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to save some money to finish his photography school, and since than he’s fascinated by the trees. Love his series of pictures of falling trees, loggers, carved trees, tree farms and more…
Just came across this wonderful project called CLOSE UP AND PRIVATE by artist Sergei Sviatchenko. In this project he’s capturing the spirit of modern style, as seen through the subtle shades of the individual. Great inspiration!
A lazy sunday afternoon, browsing thru my found and emailed links of the past week came, I across this one. I’m so much enjoying almost everything in the Japanese online shop Kirpputori (the Finnish word for flea market ). Beautiful felt animals, birch wood boxes and envelopes and lovely table ware, all antique and handcrafted goods from Finland.
Lenancker Romain, a French based graphic designer and Illustrator emailed us to show his beautiful work. Love his colorful view, the playful paper cuts & folds and clear graphics.
The ninth issue of Acne Paper addresses the dual themes of Art and Spirituality, and explores the relationship between these two inextricably linked areas of study.
The cover story sees a unique collaboration between Tilda Swinton and Paolo Roversi. Other collaborators include David Lynch, Marina Abramovic and Maureen Paley, and an extensive art portfolio is curated by Lisa Rovner and Neville Wakefield. Enjoy 131 pages of beauty by Acne. And if you’re in Amsterdam, this issue will be available at Tenue de Nîmes next week.
Workspaces always inspired me. Joseph O. Holmes did this project, finding workspaces by walking in off the street with camera and tripod and simply asking. He explains: ‘The Workspace project is my ongoing attempt to examine the quasi-private spaces people carve out of their public work lives. Such spaces represent a tug of war between personal expression and comfort on the one hand and the unyielding demands of work on the other.’ Above Chickie’s Shoe Shine.

Here’s a new project by our favorite photographer Pablo Delfos: Sentimentale. A performance by Ivan Hennetin with Opus 51 by Tchaikovslky played by Janine Jansen. It resulted in this beautiful short movie and a fantastic series of pictures.
Last week we met talented creatives and reviewed their portfolio’s at the Blend New Talent Night. We were very excited to meet such passionate and talented people and so we left Pakhuis de Zwijger with a fresh dose of inspiration.
Our favorite was definitely last years graduate from the HKU Ashkan Honarvar with his dark, horrifying but lovely collages and paintings. His former classmate, Sylvia Stølan, creates more poetic and sparkling collages and illustrations and did some nice projects here in Utrecht.
More illustration; Hedof caught our eyes with his very nice screenprinted posters – a lovely style. Adriane Galijasevic overwhelmed us with her energy and enormous amount of stories she put in the jeans she creates.
Promising talent Renata Sifrar showed us a mix of graphic, photographic and illustrational works…
And last but not least: Les Ponies Lilas. Three young girls with a shit load of energy and positivity writing, illustrating and photographing all things they like (dutch only). They’ve made some very nice t-shirts (soon online) and made a very nice illustration of Bas en myself as a present for us – How nice! Keep an eye on all these talents!
Friday october 30 Fontanel and Nieuwe Garde organizing a new issue of 60 Minute Magazine during the ‘Internationaal Beeldfestival Rotterdam‘. Participants will get 60 minutes to create a complete magazine issue – if you’re around, want to share your creativity in journalism, graphic design, photography, illustration or anything else, email them to get on the list. I’ll be there to do a short presentation on our work to inspire, and during the process to coach a bit in the art direction. Hope to see you there…
I love the simplicity of New York based Bertelli bicycles. This protoype with a lovely vintage brooks saddle will be ready for sale on starting spring 2010. Every part is assembled by hand, finished and fine-tuned by Francesco…
TimeOut magazine has recently nominated Tenue de Nîmes for ‘Best Fashion Store Amsterdam’ 2010. We would like to ask you to vote for them on their website >
