I was already enjoying Copenhagen Harbour Boat Trips, the new mix cd by Anders Trentemøller where he takes us on a trip along some fine danish sounds; just came across the besite of Thomas Skou, the photographer who did the images for the album. Love it… Sound and images… Check the review at Resident Advisor.
“Dear Listener, within this compliation I have basically chosen some of the many songs I use in my own most intimate hours, coming down after gigs, cleaning my apartment, waiting for friends to arrive or simply daydreaming with my twenty-first century walkman through the city of Copenhagen. [...] All the artists on this compliation which include names from nearly four decades have, to me, created different aspects of beauty.” — Anders Trentemøller
‘Like in a Movie’ is the introduction of the fall & winter ‘09 collection by Copenhagen based brand YDE. With this ‘Ole Yde continues his dream of attempting to bring back the gentle, strong and above all elegant woman.’
Today I received the introduction short by Ellen Truijen – 48 hours: A spherical trip through the new collection. And although we are still enjoying the last days of the summer here in Holland I felt this kind of autumn desire. The beautiful earth-tones and the tactility of the leather bags comes back in this movie and let me almost feel the cold air between the deserted houses of this 48 hours… Check the website of Ellen Truijen for the new collection – and the new website of Caramel, the company who is responsible for the short.
Known for their famous driving shoes Car Shoe is presenting this new project called Monogram cs 1.0. I like the style, the classic runner, and the thing that I can choose my own colour, material — including leather and suede — and lettering. The collection was released last june but will hit the stores next summer… so stay tuned.
I quite like this tiny bike by Bruno, a Japanese based cycle company. It’s not a folding bicycle, but a travel companion when hitting the road by plane or train and, at your destination, want to go faster than the average folding cycles. You can ‘compress’ the bike to 100 x 56 cm, the only thing you’ll need is a proper bag. Let’s ask Guu-Watanabe to make one…
This is the kind of webshop I like! Supermarket Sarah. Overflowing with treasures and delights, vintage clothing and rarities. Oh, and when visiting the shop off-line she welcomes visitors with tea and cakes.
A Time to Get shared this fantastic trailer of The Belgrade Phantom. Based on a true story: ‘Belgrade, Yugoslavia, 1979. While Yugoslav president Tito was in Cuba settling international matters, a mysterious Phantom occupied the attention and hearts of Belgrade. Every night, he performed spectacular driving manoeuvres with a stolen white Porsche car through the city streets…What started as a game turned into a political scandal and remained a myth that would never be forgot.’
Our friend Robin from A Smile in the Mind pointed us to this fantastic multi-functional sports hall by Allmann Sattler Wappner Architects for Universitätsstadt Tübingen. ‘The aim was to achieve maximum usage out of what is a comparatively small floor area. At major events, an audience of up to 3000 can be accommodated in the hall. If required telescopic stages can be drawn out on to the sprint track. The four different facades are an integral part of the building’s concept: A modern climbing wall forms the north-western facade, facilities for streetball, skating and skateboarding are placed along the south-eastern exterior wall. The south-western wall is taken up by photovoltaic elements, the entrance side of the building is used to advertise the sponsor’s name.’
Love it.
Just got this wonderful update of Vanishing Elephant. A fine mix of great ingredients: merino wool, linen woven and waxed cottons and Italian lambs leather in natural earth tones all comes back in the classic and stylefull spring ‘10 collection.
“The woods are never solitary – they are full of whispering, beckoning, friendly life. But the sea is a mighty soul, forever moaning of some great, unshareable sorrow, which shuts it up into itself for all eternity.”
Vanishing Elephant’s spring ’10 collection is an ode to the old man of the sea and the earth and her ever-changing seasons. These elements provide the inspiration for the colour palette of the collection – the deep blue of the ocean and the light green of the shallows can be seen in fine jersey tees, light blackwatch wool outerwear, linen wovens and wax cotton shorts. Earth tones of rust brown, burnt red and olive are used for over-dyed denim, cotton modal shirts and merino wool knits.
Lately I’ve had some doubts about buying or not buying the book of the Sartorialist – since it’s an online thing. But yesterday I bought one. Why? Because Scott Schuman changed the way we look, changed fashion, changed photography and finally changed the web and inspired so many people! That said, it’s a must have, a time capsule, a piece of art. Thank you Scott!
Rishi Sodha, the founder of Designers Against Human Rights Abuse (DAHRA) just contacted us to tell about their second book ‘3 Minutes‘. In 3 Minutes creatives were each given a 3 minute audio interview with a Tibetan refugee to translate using primarily typography into a 16 printed page booklet. These booklets were then combined with an 11th booklet with the original interviews in to form the book, which comes in an embossed black slip case.
3 Minutes, featuring Bibliotheque, Brighten the Corners, Stefan Gandl (NeubauBerlin), Alex Haigh (Thinkdust / HypeforType), Nick Hard (Research Studios), Jeff Knowles (Research Studios), Abbott Miller (Pentagram), Si Scott, Paul Skerm, Un.titled.

Now you can bring your broken china to Platform21 to repair it with the new repair technique Bison Kintsugi by designer Lotte Dekker. ‘Lotte Dekker developed a new view of gluing porcelain based on kintsugi, an old Japanese technique in which porcelain is repaired with gold leaf. It’s an extremely time-consuming, expensive method. Dekker found Bison glue to be the perfect Western variant for making beautiful yet simple repairs. Discover the beauty of messy mending. Bring some broken china and try it out yourself!’
I like these strange and beautiful coloured drawings by S. J. Hart. “…Her work combines traditional elements of etching, drawing, and figurative painting with a taste for the gothic, abstract, and decorative. Recent series explore the psychological space of figure and portrait paintings, Victorian post-mortem photography, and the weird zone in which zoological illustrations turn into images of childhood.” Now showing at CoLABProjects in New Orleans.
Fantastic video work by graphic designer Adam Guzman and Julia Tsao for Nosaj Thing. “As the graphics become more spatial, the performer flattens, becoming a 2-D cutout version of himself.”
TimeOut magazine has recently nominated Tenue de Nîmes for ‘Best Fashion Store Amsterdam’ 2010. We would like to ask you to vote for them on their website >
