Photographer Dana Mueller grew up in Communist East Germany and immigrated to the US in 1993. She came to question how we relate history and the human experience of going through war. The East Germans separated themselves from the guilt and horror of World War II, which contrasted to what her grandmother told her about the persecution of Jews. In her series ‘Erinnerungslandschaften‘ she explores the preservation of the past and our attempt to truly understand what has happened during World War II. The Brighton and Brooklyn series are worth to mention as well.
