Some fresh new work by illustrator Fede Yankelevich.

Sexy and the City, the upcoming exhibition at Yossi Milo Gallery ’shows the alluring, romantic and sometimes scandalous side of New York’s people and places. Capturing private, intimate moments and blatant displays of sexuality, these photographs span the decades from the 1940s to the present day, taken in landmark locations like the Brooklyn Bridge and in the quiet, out-of-the-way corners of the city.’
July 9 till August 28, Yossi Milo Gallery, 525 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10001.

Andreas Murkudis contacted us to tell about the upcomming bookpresentation of COMMEDIA DELL´ARTE – COUTURE EDITION by Florian Böhm and Nymphenburg Porzellan.
‘To celebrate the Berlin Fashion Week, Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg will be presenting the recently published Collector’s Book on the premises of Andreas Murkudis in Berlin from 1 to 18 July… The book itself is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Munich artist Florian Böhm has come up with a lavish design, and the book is presented in a cloth-bound case… The book that celebrates this edition mixes mediaeval market scenes, Madonna, masked balls, delightful juxtapositions such as Heath Ledger as Pierrot in his last film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, sad clowns such as first Watteau and then Picasso painted, David Bowie and Buster Keaton, the court of the Bavarian dukes and the court of Christian Dior, what’s lost, what’s dependable, the legacy – everything intermingles in the pictures of the book, which works almost like a film.’ Check here for more information.
If you’re in Berlin for the fashin week or Bread & Butter, the opening is tomorrow at Andreas Murkudis. Wednesday, 1 July 2009, 6.00 to 8.00 p.m., Münzstraße 21, 2. Hof. The exhibition will run from 1 July to 18 July…

Belgium based graphic designer Geoffrey Brusatto e-mailed me to tell he updated his website. He defiantly is my favorite designer of today!

On days like this, sweating my pants of in Amsterdam, I’m glad Nalden shared a secret with me to please the office workers. A whole new bag from QWSTION, again in the beautiful coated cotton canvas with nylon lining to carry all your paperwork, laptop and blackberry to the airco chilled office building. Soon at QWSTION.

I never was a huge fan of Louis Vuitton since I don’t like brands who are putting their logo all over the place. But I must say that I changed my opinion seeing the SS10 collection. The leather, the details, the overall simplicity. Like it a lot!

I can look at it for hours! Some recent scenes from above, taken by astronauts aboard the ISS over the past few months. At The Big Picture. Above the Tidal channels near Iran’s Qeshm Island.

Check this beautiful portfolio of London based artist/illustrator Anna Higgie. Above the LP Cover design for Italian disco label SLOW MOTION.

My Dutch friends at Fontanel made a nice overview of the 2009 graduation shows of the dutch academies. Tonight the show of the design department at HKU will take place with the graduation project of Jonathan Looman (the code boy behind Anothersomething). Curious to that one!

A beautiful newcomer this summer is Libertine Libertine, the Danish label by Rasmus Bak, Pernille Schwarz and Peter Munch Ovesen. ‘Motivated to create a brand based on a different set of values and set new standards for the fashion industry, Libertine-Libertine strives to stimulate the creative soul and celebrate the extraordinary in everyday life. A combination of the aesthetics found in music, art, literature and contemporary culture constitutes the philosophy of Libertine-Libertine.’ If you hapen to be in Paris this weekend visit them at the (capsule) show.

Starting tomorrow, ending the 28th of june, Rendez Vous Homme will take place at the Espace Commines in the Marais district of Paris. I’m going to do my very best to visit since there are a dozen of my favourite brands. Like S.N.S., Surface to Air, Jeroen van Tuyl, Personal Project and many more. And the best thing is, (capsule) Paris is starting this friday exhibiting the other half of my favourites (Gitman Vintage, Our Legacy, Won Hundred, Libertine Libertine a.o.). Hope to see you there.
“I’ve found you’ve got to look back at the old things and see them in a new light.”

Impressed and inspired by the work of Laetitia Negre, the ‘fashion photographer renowned for her skill at ‘inserting’ fashion shoots into extreme settings and events, in increasingly far-flung locations.’ Love it! Above a spread of the Royal Enfield series for i-D.

As you might know I’m a big fan of the h(y)r collective. After launching their own clothing and accessories label they now come with an online shop with a selection of fine and high quality products. Besides their own stuf they’re selling porter bags, common projects sneakers, the monocle magazine and Malin + Goetz candles… Check out The Shop at h(y)r collective.

Nick Maggio from a time to get did a special feature on Mr Freedom, the best vintage dealer of the world… ‘When I walk in, the smell of a-couple-hundred-thousand-years of collective history tickles my nose and draws my mouth into a smile. I have arrived. If the pieces on the floor could tell stories of their travels, there would be no need for film or books. People would simply come to Mister Freedom, huddle in a circle around a 1944 Army Issue fleece, and listen to tales of where they’ve been and what they’ve seen.’ Continue reading >

Just got back from a short evening between new dutch talents at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam where I’ve mastered at the 5th Blend x Streetlab New Talent Portfolio Night. There were three people at my table worth publishing.
1. Floor de Bruin is a fashion designer with a define eye for simplicity. Her graduation collection from 2007 is a beautiful series of garments with straight lines and contrasts. At this moment she is moving towards photography and design, so keep an eye on her.
2. Samantha van der Werff creates fantastic sculptural paper installations along with some fresh and joyful graphic design… Looks promising!
3. (pictured above) This is definitely my favorite for today! Sujata Majumdar takes simplicity to a next level. Serene and sober landscapes accompanied with landscape-like pieces of meat, sharp lines in urban settings and melancholic views over mountains and waters… Lovely!

Reflexions in the water, mirrors, shadows and blurred images of flowers and leaves, all playing with light and shade… Strange and beautiful images by Jorma Puranen at Gallery Anhava last februari. ‘For the artist, the use of reflections is a metaphor, a way to grasp the relationships of past and present, the issues of duration and recollection.’

Beautiful images with stunning sets and props by Paris based photographer Grégoire Alexandre. And I’ve heard he’s only 27. wow!

Sang Blue shared some beautiful photographs of the Blue Rebel Motorcycle Club in California, 1965 by Bill Ray. Visit the Sang Blue blog for more images…
