Why do so many designs fail to pass the everyday test? Why is Normal disappearing, and when it’s gone how do we replace it? Is beauty just a question of looks, or could there be more to it than meets the eye? What makes a good object, and how come some objects get better with time?

‘Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: tribes. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.’ So inspiring!
Something opposite to Moderat, and I would rather listen it during autumn days, but I have to share this, cause I love it anyway! Found Songs by Icelandic neo-classical composer Ólafur Arnalds. Driving with windows open, following the Mediterranean coastline of France at the end of the day with the smell of lavender and bougainvillea, enjoying the colours of the sundown in the reflection of the waves… That’s what comes in mind when listening to Moderat, the collaboration between Modeselektor and Apparat (Sebastian Szary, Gernot Bronsert & Sascha Ring) at BPitch Control resulting in an audio-visual experience with beautiful moving images by Pfadfinderei. Love it.
‘In 2014, the Olympic Games will take place in Sochi, Russia. Never before have the Olympic Games been held in a region that contrasts more strongly with the glamour of the Games than Sochi… Between now and 2014 the area around Sochi will change beyond recognition. The extreme makeover is already underway; refugee flats and poverty-stricken resorts are disappearing at high speed from the partly fashionable, partly impoverished seaside resort of Sochi…
Photographer Rob Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen plan to document the changes in the area around Sochi over the coming five years.’
Andreas Murkudis caught my heart quite some time ago… But since then, every update he sends me I feel a need to visit Berlin. Latest addition in the collection: the beautiful bags & accessories by Valextra.

Yesterday I received this beautiful book with black and white images by RJ Shaughnessy. I asked him a short explanation on the story behind ‘Your golden opportunity is comeing very soon’:
“Every day as humans and as artists in particular we attempt to achieve perfection. Imperfections arise as a result of these attempts. These imperfections are in and of themselves perfect. This book is my attempt at celebrating a crop of these imperfections which might otherwise go unnoticed in hopes that it will inspire people to stop trying to be perfect or perhaps to continue trying even harder.
Let’s all make mistakes!”
The dutch menswear label OntFront and Nuzyn are collaborating in a new pop-up store called The Independent Fashion Store opening next week in Amsterdam. I posted the duffel some days ago, but that was only the appetizer… Yesterday they released the h(y)r collective magazine issue 12 with a fabulous collaboration with Gitman Bros. on a beautiful shirt and they will open their own shop this months as well…
I asked Ryan about these collaborations and they came back to me with some fresh answers.
“The idea in short, behind THE collection by (y) is just to put together the perfect item. Since I’m not a designer really (for clothing), I wanted to work with people who are already making a really great product and make my own tweaks and changes to it for how I would ideally like it to be.
So each season, although we’re trying not to tie it to seasons too much, we are releasing a small capsule of 2-5 items in collaboration with other designers we admire, whether they are an old craft/heritage brand, or a new designer. The focus is always on quality and we are trying to always have things produced by hand, and where their oirigins are.
For fall, we have a red brick sole dirty buck with Mark McNairy, ties with Alexander Olch and a fishermans cardigan with Inverallan.”
‘Inspiration is everywhere and in everything, all we see, hear and feel enriches our creative mind. We want to stimulate the unconscious creative process by giving notes on that what could be received without any complete understanding. Issues of today are the inspiration of tomorrow.’
Too bad they’re not for sale, but this is a very nice collection of vintage military watches. But see it as a good inspiration for purchase… Check Hyunsuk.
Every step we take is a step forward, and every step we remember is one of substance. In our live there are events, people and belongings that will change us… things that at first glance aren’t that special, but get meaning when we realize how we got there and what function it wears in our cycle of life. It makes us realize that everything around us at this very moment could make the change we are looking for. It makes us realize that these moments are the timeless and pure essence of being. When time stops, life begins.
