Le Miroir Vivant
April 29

picture-1

We are honored to have Niels Shoe Meulman exhibiting in Tenue de Nîmes with his newest calligraffiti, Le Miroir Vivant. Shoe’s art and design shows us that words are images. His Calligraffiti pieces are as much about the form as the meaning of the words he chooses. They can be categorized as names, titles, short poems or objects. Along with the exhibited work, Shoe will paint the Tenue de Nîmes shop window and a special range of eight printed Denim Demon sweaters will be available for the happy few.

Le Miroir Vivant
May 9th / the end of June
Tenue de Nîmes, Elandsgracht 60 in Amsterdam.

A moment of Saudade
April 28

beckel

Beckel Canvas reminds me on the summer-camps I did for years, and it makes me feel nostalgic. They make really beautiful bags and tents with with high quality canvas, all handcrafted one at a time. And basically you can create your own tent, just the way you want it. “They are meant to be used and keep you or your gear well protected.”
A moment of Saudade.

Beautiful new works by Ian Davis! ‘…It forms an absurdist theater in which little mysteries are enacted by large groups of men against the backdrops of anonymous institutions and forbidding landscapes…’

If you are in NY, you’ll have one week to visit Leslie Tonkonow Artworks & Projects at 535 west 22nd street to see this amazing work.

Fuel for Art
April 23

‘Artists create to bring something into the world that couldn’t exist without them.’

Gino Orlandi contacted me to tell about his recently published eBook Fuel for Art. It counts 78 pages and it’s quite an interesting handbook about how to start a business with your creativity using the web. It’s a useful guide for designers, illustrators, photographers and any visual artist and it’s full of tips about branding yourself, setting goals for your art career and become a little more commercially minded without selling your soul…

I have the privilege to give away two eBooks (worth $37). If you want to get your hands on it, twitter me @Anothercompany with your best tip on selling your art online.

We were already a fan of Etsy but now we can even get our hands on the delicious hand made things by small passionate food producers. Buy directly from artisanal producers and growers at Foodoro and Foodzie. Via PSFK.

Our favorites: Mendocino Coast Kombu, Somebody’s Mother’s Chocolat, Chocolate Mexicano, Basil Truffle Oil and the Reserve California Estate Osetra Caviar. But actually we’d like to taste almost everything!

A lovely video by Cool Hunting. They asked a little printing studio in São Paulo to make a poster for their 99% conference. Fantastic to see this craftsmanship and the love for the work on a 1929 German letterpress.

blend

Yesterday I came back from the New Talent Portfolio night and I was so happy to see so much new talent! It was a great mix of people with a huge amount of potential. They varied from being completely at the beginning of their career and creatives who already earned their spurs but just needed a little mentorship. Thank you Blend & Streetlab for this great opportunity for new talent! Looking forward to the next one.

Casual style
April 17

— When in doubt: a white oxford shirt. —

The (new) laws of casual style by Esquire are funny, neat and most of the time undoubted. For-instance in point 18: ‘Denim is the center of the casual universe.’ And you’d better combine it with a cotton button-down or T-shirt, brown loafers, navy-blue blazer or a cashmere sweater. Read all the 69 tips here.
