Rebel rebel
April 26

Rebel rebel, Remembering Karlheinz Winberger.

Rebel Rebel: Remembering Karlheinz Weinberger is a group show featuring the work of Ryan McGinley, Walter Pfeiffer, Collier Schorr, along side some of Karlheinz Weinberger’s orginal photographs. The interest in capturing images of youth and their lifestyles, spanning over several generations, is a continuing fascination shared by each of these artist.

Opposing Forces
April 25

From April 27 till May 26 at the ATM gallery, New York.

“Black, luminous, tactile, formal, partially mirrored and optically psychedelic – there is a calculated sensuality to these paintings. Terry realizes that you cannot harmonize with the music of the spheres if you don’t have pitch. Multiple, perhaps parallel universes manifest from ostensibly abstract blobs on hard acrylic surfaces. Sea anemones; supernovas; intelligent pattern formations from the future; great, primordial, alien creatures locked in battle; fantastic geological upheavals on a planetary scale are all there to see–captured in paint.

How to be creative
April 24

It’s an old post from gapingvoid but I was pointed on it by Dan and thought lets share it; Because it’s still relevant!

1. Ignore everybody.
2. The idea doesn’t have to be big. It just has to change the world.
3. Put the hours in.
4. If your biz plan depends on you suddenly being “discovered” by some big shot, your plan will probably fail.
5. You are responsible for your own experience.
6. Everyone is born creative; everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten.
7. Keep your day job.
8. Companies that squelch creativity can no longer compete with companies that champion creativity.
9. Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb.
10. The more talented somebody is, the less they need the props.
11. Don’t try to stand out from the crowd; avoid crowds altogether.
12. If you accept the pain, it cannot hurt you.
13. Never compare your inside with somebody else’s outside.
14. Dying young is overrated.
15. The most important thing a creative person can learn professionally is where to draw the red line that separates what you are willing to do, and what you are not.
16. The world is changing.
17. Merit can be bought. Passion can’t.
18. Avoid the Watercooler Gang.
19. Sing in your own voice.
20. The choice of media is irrelevant.
21. Selling out is harder than it looks.
22. Nobody cares. Do it for yourself.
23. Worrying about “Commercial vs. Artistic” is a complete waste of time.
24. Don’t worry about finding inspiration. It comes eventually.
25. You have to find your own schtick.
26. Write from the heart.
27. The best way to get approval is not to need it.
28. Power is never given. Power is taken.
29. Whatever choice you make, The Devil gets his due eventually.
30. The hardest part of being creative is getting used to it.
31. Remain frugal.

Read them all here.

Welcome to the Conversation Age
April 24

If ideas are the currency of our times then this is, undoubtedly, the age of conversation, for without the art of dialogue, the cut and thrust of debate and discussion, then the economy of ideas would implode under its own heavy weight. Instead, the reverse is true. Far from seeing an implosion, we are living in a time of proliferation — ideas build upon ideas, discussion grows from seeds of thought and single headlines give rise to a thousand medusa-like simulations echoing words whispered somewhere on the other side of the planet. All this — in an instant…

Join the conversation!

Beautiful pictures by Cara Barer

My photographs are primarily a documentation of a physical evolution. I have changed a common object into sculpture in a state of flux.

The way we choose to research and find information is also in an evolution. I hope to raise questions about these changes, the ephemeral and fragile nature in witch we now obtain knowledge, and the future of books.

So 2 years ago!
April 23

Thanks to one of my kind readers I was pointed on the thing that this Banksy art was overprinted 2 years ago and he was asking why this makes the news now.
“…the piece is gone since the july bombings in 2005 when someone put a “fuck al qaida” piece over it…”

So, then the question is, why is it on BBC, why did I read it in the NRC (dutch news paper), why? Is it banksy’s press agent trying to get some attention?
If you have the answer, let me know.

I am always hungry
April 18

I am always hungry for life, for simplicity, for breaking genres, for the ordinary… and the extraordinary, for the “enhanced” experience, for old school sneaks, old school beats, and new school thought, for the remix and the original, for the laughter and the crying (but not over spilt milk), for creating a stir, for writing long run-on sentences (like this one), for details, for getting to work early (and late), for the pungent smell of acetone, for Robert Rauschenberg, Tibor Kalman, and John Heartfield, to not go above and beyond… but further, for gumbo, for an unexpected smile, for a Terry Gilliams film, and the wonderful cinematography of Jean-Paul Jeunet, for handwriten letters, for film noir, for the reviews of janet maslin, for consuming obscene amounts of caffeine, for a place I can call my own, for design.
